Chinese New Year Demo at Timothy Edwards

Saturday January 29, 2005
Every year, the Chinese Cultural Center invites different organizations to perform for Chinese New Year. We've done this show in the past, but usually we had a longer performance with taiji, individual forms, etc. This year, we were only given 5 minutes. So for two weeks prior to the show, Master Hu put together a massive group weapons form, a group straightsword form, and a group combat form. They weren't hard to arrange because everybody was doing their own thing for the most part. It was just a matter of getting the timing down. Class was funny for me because i would literally be standing there in mabu stance the whole time, only swinging the whipchain once or twice; everyone else was practicing their part over and over.

On the day of the performance, most of us arrived around 4, even though we didn't perform until 5:30, so we spent a lot of time just hanging out in back. This is why there are a lot of pictures of us fooling around, and not much of the short demo. There is video of our performance in the video section, thanks to Alex Scrabut.

marco was going to tape for me, but i wanted him to enjoy the show. alex was happy to hold the camera though.

We saw this little girl play violin 2 years ago... she played crazy then... she's even crazier now. too bad i was in back warming up so i missed it.
Since alex had the video camera, i gave marco my digital camera to take pictures. i wish i adjusted the settings earlier to make it easier to use.
Aside from the crazy violin girl, i thought the show was pretty sleep inducing. luckily the track we used from Hero was full of bass, and if that didn't wake people up, the phil's yells did

poor jiayin, 5 on 1, not really fair
After the show, we all headed down to some chinese buffet place in manchester to celebrate. We were supposed to have a room to ourselves, but there was another party there, so it was pretty packed.
The price was $16 a person, so i tried to make the most of it... kept a good pace, tried not to fill myself with rice, had about 10 kiwis... food was pretty good too. except for the corn. bad corn.
smile!
Teri and Anthony... I love watching them kick each other in class. I want to market sparring as a form of family therapy.
didn't anybody teach you not to play with your food? think about the children who are starving in africa! hehe

Why do i have so many pictures of wonchi and rich?
the kids stuffed jello into a beer bottle and daring each other to eat it... we just can't ever seem to behave in public places... ever.
