Hopefully This Works

Dear Auckland City Council Officer,

I am writing you to appeal for leniency regarding a fine for a traffic infringement observed on 4 October 2007. A few days ago, I received a notice reference #T7540359 stating that my vehicle #RQ1122 was seen traveling on the bus/bike lane on Khyber Pass Road at 4:32 p.m. It also stated that the applicable infringement fee is $150 and to respond with driver details on the blue sheet. When I read the letter, I was totally surprised that I was cited for a traffic offense, as try to my best ability to be a safe and responsible driver. Reading the details over, I couldn’t figure out what law I broke until my flatmate explained the green bus lane rules. I’m an American here on working holiday and have only been driving in Auckland for a couple months, so I was totally unfamiliar with that traffic law. I know that’s no excuse, but I was genuinely ignorant of the fact that it was impermissible to drive on the bus lane at those time. I thought the times stated on the signs were for when the lanes had to be cleared of parked cars so that busses can pass through. I actually parked on those lanes for work and made sure I relocated the car before 4 p.m. everyday.

Replaying my routine for driving home from work, I can see where I would’ve committed the offense on the short stretch of Khyber Pass Road. However, please be understanding of the fact that I wasn’t purposely rushing through traffic or using it as a passing lane or a shortcut. I was simply unaware that I was doing anything wrong, though I am WELL aware of rule now since receiving the notice. I will certainly to be observant of that traffic restriction from now on. Please take all this into consideration when you review repealing the fine.

gamingoddess - Submitted on 2007/10/17 - Damn, I wish I could right such a sad repeal when I drove 15 miles over the speed limit. “Dear Curry County Court, I would like to extend my heartfelt wishes to all of those officers who enjoy pulling over unsuspecting speed demons during morning hours. I was completely unaware that I was driving over the speed limit ALTHOUGH I have been driving in Clovis New Mexico for more than a year and a half. In other words, I’ve been going over the speed limit simply because I was ignorant of the fact that the speed limit states “55″ instead of “70″. Please understand that I am blind in the right eye and half problems seeing numbers clearly which causes me to mix up 5s and 7s and 0s. Please consider this before charging me your extrordinarily overpriced citation cost. Thank you. Sincerely a registered voter, gamingoddess”

LOL – Note, I wish I could right like that and sent it in….of course they they would’ve doubled my fine!

gamingoddess - Submitted on 2007/10/17 - I just realized that I wrote…write as “right”…and other horrible spelilng errors…I told you I was blind!

charles - Submitted on 2007/10/17 - yeah, and you wrote “half” instead of “have”… i think your problems go beyond spelling errors. hahaha

Dear Supreme Court,
I am writing to you to appeal for the charges against me on October 17th of 2007 regarding a traffic citation occuring near the intersection of Route 3 and Sand Road. I am visiting the country on vacation and was completely unaware of the universal traffic rule obligating the driver’s submission to the first visible sign of flashing blue and red lights. I perceived the colors coming from the police car that eventually ran me off the road as azure and carimine. Due to the vagueness of this paticular traffic rule I entered a state of confusion and mistakenly opened fire upon officer Harris Walinski when asked for my license and registration. I know that’s no excuse, but I was genuinely ignorant of the fact that it was impermissible to strip clothes off of the recently deceased and rape their orifaces until they turn cold.

Replaying my routine for driving home from work, I can see where I would’ve committed the offense on the short stretch of Sand Road. However, please be understanding of the fact that I wasn’t purposely dragging the corpse of Mr. Walinski through the streets of Providence behind my car while pissing out of the window and shouting “I’ll take 20th Century Architecture for 500!”. I was simply unaware that I was doing anything wrong, though I am WELL aware of rule now since receiving the notice. I will certainly be observant of that traffic restriction from now on. Please take all this into consideration when you review repealing the fine.
